He was predeceased by: his parents, Cyril Gerdes and Lorraine Gerdes (Boyle); and his son John. He is survived by: his wife Karen of Pierre; his children, Jim (Gretchen) of Spearfish and Amy Thelen (Mike) of Sioux Falls; and his brothers, Karl Gerdes (Pam) of Davis, CA and Bjorn Opjordsmoen (Sissel). He is also survived by cats and one grand dog.
