He was predeceased by: his parents, Eldred Smith and Caroline Smith (Spangler). He is survived by: his former wife Shirley Champlin; his wife Valerie Thomson; his children, Ammy Counterman (Tony) of Sioux Falls, SD, Scott Smith of Austin, TX and Scott Thomson (Christy) of Edgerton, MN; his grandchildren, Kailee, Kaden, Cole, Corrie and Tanner; and his siblings, Terry Smith of Lake Campbell, SD, Doug Smith (Tracey), Steve Smith (Georgie) of Sioux Falls, SD and Sylvia Alberts (Greg) of Flandreau, SD. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
