He was predeceased by: his parents, Arlene Heminger and Roy Buffalo; his brother Don Buffalo; his grandparents, Felix and Agnes Heminger; his great-grandparents, Rev. Albert Heminger and Ruth Abigail Wakeman (Towastewin); and his great-great-grandparents, Anthony, Lucy Heminger (Tawipaindaye), Thomas Wakeman (Wowinape), Judith Minnetonka (Tatiyhuakawazawin), Ta Oyate Duta (Little Crow) and Mary Wakeman.
He is survived by: his sons, Ben Gilbert (Betty) of Sloan and Ron Gilbert, Jr. (Gina) of Flandreau, SD; his grandchildren, Payne Gilbert of Flandreau, SD, Derek Gilbert of Delray Beach and Brooklyn Gilbert of Sloan, Iowa; and his siblings, LeAnn Tallbear of Sisseton, SD, Helen Gilbert of Flandreau, SD, Wendy Gilbert of Flandreau, SD and Bill Gilbert of Flandreau, SD. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
