He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew "Doc" and Esther Mechtenberg (Hohn) of Dimock, SD.; his father-in-law Leo Flaherty; his sister Shirley Bauman; his brother-in-law John Bauman; and his nephew Rory Flaherty.
He is survived by: his children, Sarah Mechtenberg (Javier Antezana) of La Paz, Bolivia and Karl Mechtenberg (Emily) of Anchorage, AK; his spouse Joe Mechtenberg (Lindsey Wolf) of Golden Valley, MN; his grandchildren, Tucker, Sidney Mechtenberg and Max Antezana; and his mother-in-law Helen Flaherty of Le Mars, IA. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews.
