He was predeceased by: his parents, Louie and Priscilla; his brother Craig Matthesen; and his parents-in-law, Hyle and Ruth Gatzemeyer.
He is survived by: his wife Jean Gatzemeyer; his sister Virginia Hagemeier; and his in-laws, Judy Gatzemeyer Marchant and John Gatzemeyer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, December 12th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home (234 N 6th St, Custer, SD 57730). A funeral service was held on Friday, December 13th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Mountain View Baptist Church.
