He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd "Mickey" O'Connor and Ruth Graham O'Connor; and his siblings, Floyd, Glen, Gerald and Carol.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Elaine Newberg of Custer; his sisters, Pat Spargur and Joyce Hamilton; his daughters, Lynnette Rockvam (Perry) and Deanna Emery (David); his grandchildren, Joshua, Katie (Todd), Lindsay (Taylor), Brandon and Ryan; and his great grandchildren, Myles, Mason and Brooks. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
