He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Merges and Barbara Merges (Klink); his parents-in-law, John and Martha Groos; and his siblings-in-law, Bernice Heinricher, Lois Heim, Dorothy Groos, Joe Heim, John McCarthy and Bob List.
He is survived by: his wife Betty; his sisters, Dolores Merges of Dell Rapids and Elaine List of Yankton; his siblings-in-law, Omar Hinricher of Colorado and Rosie McCarthy of Minnesota; his children, Ken Merges (Gale) of Colman, SD, Kathy Cernoch (Richard) of LaGrange, TX, Roger Merges (Brenda) of Colman, SD and Susan Merges of Sioux Falls, SD; his granddaughters, Alica Haroldson (Britt), Carly Clare (Dominique), Kelsey Merges, Katie Pape (Nich) and Kelli Robinson (Zach); and his great grandchildren, Donovan, Bodie, Everest, Simmone, Van, Shaw, Farrah and Townes. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
