It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Abernathy of Chamberlain, South Dakota, born in Miller, South Dakota, who passed away on October 10, 2024, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Abernathy and Marion Abernathy (Clough); his son Timothy "Tim" Fallis; his grandsons, Shane Fallis and Dakota Fallis Sr.; his siblings, Bernie Abernathy, Rich Abernathy, Dorothy Schulte, Leona Jacobsen and Marcia Knight; and his granddaughter Sierra Abernathy.
He is survived by: his brother-in-law Jim Stebbins; his wife Sandy Hopkins; his great grandchildren, Dakota Fallis Jr. and Harper Fallis; his children, Jesse Kirkie Abernathy of Eagle Butte, Terry Abernathy (Serena) of Fort Thompson, David Abernathy Sr. (Helen) of Pukwana, Marsden Abernathy of Aberdeen, Merrill Abernathy of Chamberlain, Audra Alberts (James) of Pukwana, Marisa Abernathy of Chamberlain, LaRae White (Josh) of Box Elder and Charise Abernathy (Eugene Giago) of Rapid City; and his siblings, Jim Abernathy (Carol) of Maple Valley, Washington, Mary Hendricks (Ron) of Gann Valley, Connie Stebbins (Jim) of Pukwana and Janet Reuer of Chamberlain.
