He is survived by: his wife Chela Long of California; his children, Freedom Long (Trudy Hood), Quinten Patterson of Brookings, Rose Graham of Utah, Justice Long of California, Jason Long Jr. of Lower Brule, Macy Byington of Mitchell, Lacosta Byington of Lower Brule and Belle Long of Lower Brule; and his siblings, Dustin Montoya of Lower Brule, Nancy Big Eagle of Pierre, Vaughn Big Eagle (Kim Rockwood) of Lower Brule, Jane Big Eagle (Randy Jandreau) of Lower Brule and James Big Eagle of Huron. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
