He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Nelson and Ina Nelson (Reierson); and his daughter Randi Unverzagt. He is survived by: his wife Kay; his daughters, Robin Nelson, Lynne Johnson (Steve) and Carol Rosgaard (Lauren); his grandchildren, Alexander Unverzagt, Abigail Unverzagt (Joel Johnson), Sophia Molstad (Cape), Ina, Seth and Isaac Rosgaard; and his great grandchild Amelia. He is also survived by extended family and friends.
