He was predeceased by: his grandfather Rev. Doyle Ellis. He is survived by: his parents, Todd Hofer and Melanie Hofer (Ellis) of Hitchcock; his brother Travis Hofer (Leah); his nieces and nephews, Barrett of Hitchcock, Morgan Hofer of Warrenton, Trevor Hofer of Hitchcock, Ty Hofer of Hitchcock and Madison Hofer of Hitchcock; his grandparents, Eldon E., Alie Hofer of Hitchcock and Eva Ellis of Claremont; his aunts and uncles, Helene Wedel (Brad) of Yale, Shari Steinheuser (Mark) of Tulare, Kenneth Hofer (Jodi) of Hitchcock, JoEllen Salmen (Tom) of Tulare, Darinda Tunby (Lars) of Houghton, Laronda Becker (Mark) of Waterloo and Lonnie Ellis of Houghton; and his cousins, Andrea Larson (Bret), Jessica Bulthuis (Derrick), Sarah Schweinsberg (Zach), Nathan Wedel (Anna), Emily Wedel, Lance Steinheuser, Scott Steinheuser (Jaclyn), Shaylyn Stout (Clint), Brittani Hofer (Jose Tepexpa), Chelsea Hofer, McKenzie Hofer, Kolby Hofer, Jeremy Hofer, Elizabeth Salmen, Thomas John Salmen, Erik Salmen, Matthew Salmen, Neil Salmen, Chantel Hughes (Orrin), Shawna Hagy (Ryan), Krista Geiger (Moses), Dawson Tunby, Sierra Tunby, Genae Becker and Daniel Becker.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorials be directed to two of Trent's missions: Byron Bible Camp of Huron and Equip Campus Ministries at First Baptist Church of Brookings .
