He was predeceased by: his parents, Arend Johnson and Helen Johnson (Torgrude); his daughter Dana Lynn; and his sisters, Arlene, Mavis, Phyllis, Beverly and Virginia.
He is survived by: his children, Ryan Roger, Melissa Carol, Shannon Sue, Ryan Johnson (Elida) of Sioux Falls, SD, Melissa Nielsen (Ron) of Monticello, MN and Shannon Richarz (Keith) of Volga, SD; his grandchildren, Alec, Hayleigh, Wyatt, Mason Johnson, Braden, Austin, Christopher Nielsen, Brianna and Tristan Richarz; and his siblings, Carol Ringgaard (Eudale) of Brookings, SD, Dianne Coovert (Earl) of Rapid City, SD, Delores Ross of Sunset, UT and LeRoy Johnson of Hanna City, IL. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
