He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilbert Murfield and Erhmel Murfield (Robinson); his spouse Edith Thompson; and his brothers, Delmar and Kermit.

He is survived by: his son Gary Murfield (Cheryl) of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Lori Bloom (Christopher) and Michael; and his great grandchildren, Hannah, Claudia and Wyatt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
