He was predeceased by: his stepparents, Randy Helland and Candance Otteson. He is survived by: his parents, Jim Otteson and Patti Cooksey; his wife Melissa (Honkomp); his children, Ashton and Branch; and his siblings, Kaley Bolish (Jeff), Jori Kriese (Jeremy), Nick Otteson (Myrna), Josh Helland and Randi Avery (Richard).

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to The Matt Otteson Baseball Scholarship Fund.
