He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Berreth and Ottelia Berreth (Ottmer); his siblings, Don and Carolyn; his mother-in-law Thelma; his sister-in-law Diane; and his wife Kathryn Lavonne Carnahan.
He is survived by: his children, Julie Smith (V. J.) of Brookings, SD, Jan Bee of St. Clair, MI, Jennifer George (Geoff) of Minnetonka, MN and J. D. of Brookings, SD.; his grandchildren, Dan Ackerwold (Tina), Tom Ackerwold, Laura Ackerwold, Blake Leon (Abel), Linzi Bruehan, Goldi Lynch (Josh), Sidney Prisbe (Ben), Flannery Berreth, Trevor Berreth, Molly Goodier (Nick), Kelly Ganrud (Adam) and Mary Meyers (Cody); and his siblings-in-law, Donna Berreth and Gary Oster.
He also served on the board of Waconia Ridgeview Hospital Foundation for nine years as well as the board of the Hutchinson Telephone Company.
