She was predeceased by: her parents, Clyde Gray and Catherine Gray; and her siblings, Wilber, Orlo, Phyllis, Jimmie, Elaine, Verne, Linda and Willis.
She is survived by: her husband Dennis of Black Hawk; her children, Cathi Wood (Farren) of Norfolk, NE, Crystal Perry (Chris), Carla Coull, Black Hawk and Clayton Coull (Hope) of Hertford, NC; and her grandchildren, Dustin Wood (Darienne), Colin Wood, Riley Perry, Liam Coull, Aiden Coull, Kiera Coull and Clara Coull.
Even as Alzheimer's robbed Shirley of who she was, if Dennis wasn't at her side her eyes were scanning the room looking for him: "Where have you been? I'm just not myself when you're away." Dennis and Shirley moved to Aberdeen where Shirley was employed as a deputy in the Brown County Sheriff's office and later as a legal secretary while Dennis attended Northern State College.
