He was predeceased by: his parents, James Niewenhuis and Bertha Niewenhuis (Roelofs); his in-laws, Bert and Johanna Vander Ley; his siblings, Bert, Edith DeJong, Wallace, Mindy Niewenhuis, John, Lavonne Maas, Calvin (Ethel Niewenhuis) and Dale (Fran Niewenhuis); his son-in-law Keith DeWaard; his grandson Vince Ries; and his brother-in-law Fred Vander Ley.
He is survived by: his wife Juella Vander Ley of Corsica; his children, Linda Vande Kerk (Jim) of Rock Valley, IA, Donna Ness (Mark) of Mitchell, SD, Dennis Niewenhuis (Jackie) of Corsica, Norma DeWaard of Stickney, SD and Duane Niewenhuis (Rhonda) of Harrisburg, SD; his brother Bob Niewenhuis (Faith) of Jenison, MI; and his siblings-in-law, Lila Katje (Jim) of Hudsonville, MI, Ramona DeLange (Harlan) of Rapid City, SD, Judy VanGenderen (Harlan) of Platte, SD and Larry Vander Ley (Bonnie) of New Holland, SD..
Visitation was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Christian Reformed Church (275 N Simpson Ave, Corsica, SD 57328). A prayer was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be directed to Dakota Christian School or Crossroad Prison Ministry.
