He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbert Irwin and Inga Camilla Symens (Severson); his sister Faye Schmidle; his grandson Ethan Christians; and his siblings-in-law, Lamoyne Prouty, Gene Armstrong, Burton Rademacher, Claire Witham and Marjorie Symens.
He is survived by: his wife Cleo Symens; his children, Susan Hardina (Scott), Jeannine Walker (Ken), Connie Christians (Jason) and Brad Symens (Jenn); his grandchildren, Steven Hardina (Shannon Raby), Jessica Christians, Lauren Hardina (Trever Neal), Ashley Van Tubergen (Brad), Samantha Walker (Max Armstrong), Michelle DeKam (Jesse) and Elizabeth Walker; his great grandchildren, Sophie DeKam, Lily DeKam, Kaylee Neal and Analyn Neal; his siblings, Althea Prouty, David Symens, Herman Symens (Judy), Karen Jongeling (Darrel), Paul Symens (Faye), Doris Armstrong and John Symens (Shirley); and his parents-in-law, Craig Schmidle, Ruth Rademacher, Vicky Witham and Shirley Schuller (Roger).
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the South Dakota Conservation Endowment Fund.
