He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald and Marlene; and his sister Denise. He is survived by: his children, Amanda, Aaron (Melissa), Emily (Nate) and Alex (Rachel); and his siblings, Grant, Crystal (Doug), Tracy, Paige (Kelly) and Troy (Rose).

In lieu of flowers or cards, the family would love for donations to be made in Zach's name to organizations helping wounded or disabled veterans.

“Zach was my next door neighbor in Faulkton when we were growing up. His brother Troy and I were best friends. Zach was at my 10th birthday party and we played together often as kids. He was smart, hard-working and well-liked. My mother remembers Zach as being a pleasant and kind-hearted person. This is a true loss. Zach was one of the good ones. “Kern family- Your Dad was one of a kind. His face would light up every time he talked about all you kids. He always adored how beautiful his girls were and was excited to be a Grandpa.. His face lit up the room when he talked about you all. He loved you all with all his heart! Zach was such a history buff and was such a great listener and always willing to help out a friend. He was a friend to everyone he came in contact with. Our hearts are sad-- Joe and Val Miller”
