He was predeceased by: his parents, Loren Bierne and Jean Bierne (Waldron); his son Tom (Michelle); his brother Bob; his wife Ruth Kellen-Butts; and his stepson Matt Butts.
He is survived by: his wife Pat Derzab of Aberdeen; his siblings, Larry (Jan) of Bellingham, WA and Margie Miller (Kathleen) of Pismo Beach, CA; his children, Mike Butts (JoAnn), Pat Bierne (Carla), Jon Bierne (Scarlett) of Pierre and Cathy Hilzendeger (Tony) of Rapid City; his stepchildren, David Derzab (Jody Bush) of Victoria, MN, John Derzab and Sonja Holman (Jeremiah) of Aberdeen; and his grandchildren, Erika Hanson (Josh Friesen) of Akaska, Kellen Butts of Watertown, Levi Butts, Justin Bierne Aberdeen (Rachel), Chrisandra Bierne of Aberdeen, Michael Bierne, Savanna Bierne, Andrew, Sara Bierne, Evan, Owen Derzab and Madalynn Holman. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be sent to the Roncalli Tuition Assistance.
