He was predeceased by: his parents, Elvin Buhl and Erna Buhl (Madsen); his siblings, Leroy and Norma Fischer; his parents-in-law, Gladys and Leroy Schmidt; and his son-in-law Richard Shape.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Schmidt of Pierre; and his children, Rodney of Pierre and Rhonda Lipp (John) of Rapid City. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
