He was predeceased by: his parents, John Overby and Etta Overby (Anderson) of Mellette; his brother Jack; and his sister-in-law Bea. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Beck; and his children, Frances, Philip Overby (Linda), Evelyn Peters (Jim), Fran Gylling (Steve) and Orval Overby. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
