He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Rueben Schatz and Nora Schatz (Runge); his wife Raeleen Lehr; his sons, Christopher Schatz (Kelly Pischke) of Sioux Falls and Matthew Schatz of Sioux Falls; his daughter-in-law Tanya Schatz of Sioux Falls; his sisters, Elaine Fromm (Roger) of Chadron, NE, Linda Oestreich of Burnsville, MN, Carol Lyman (Kevin) of Elizabethtown, KY, Sandy Nagel (Pat) of Bismarck, ND and Lori Bohnhoff (Robert) of New England, ND; his grandchildren, Natalie and Logan Schatz; his stepgrandchildren, Jayden, Brooklyn and Preston Pischke; his brother LaDell Lehr (Darlene) of Cedar Rapids, IA; and his siblings-in-law, Mavis Lehr of Roscoe, SD. and Dwight Lehr.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners International.
