She was predeceased by: her parents, Lugenia Adams Harris and Jimmie Harris; her father-in-law John Robert Sanders; and her sister Gloria Harris. She is survived by: her husband John Maurice Sanders; her children, Jared Sanders of York, SC and Tyne Sanders (Colby) of Lyman, SC; her siblings, Cartha Harris (Vivian) and Eleanor Harris of Hopkins, SC; her mother-in-law Marjorie "Baby Ray" Sanders; her aunt Essie Brooks; her nieces and nephews, Stephanie Coulter (Patrick), Monique Sanders, Tyrell Harris (Zulema) and Bryan Sanders; her brother-in-law Tony Sanders (Sheryl); her close friends, Sonja Robinson (James), Carrie Washington (Chris) and Mary Neal (Harry); and her godchildren, Laporsha Lowry, Tiana Darby, Zyla Isom, ZyReagan Isom and Zakari Isom. She is also survived by two great-nieces, two great-nephews, two great-great nephews, and one great-great niece.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Wright Funeral Home (301 E Liberty St, York, SC 29745). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, January 23rd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the White Hill AME Zion Church (2255 Old York Rd, York, SC 29745).

“Thelma's steadfast love for her Lord and Savior always amazed me. We were Bible Study Fellowship leaders together, then led online BSF classes and ultimately, I took over her class when she stepped away to start treatment last year. Her group members love and miss her tremendously. Thelma served with passion and grace. My heart is glad knowing she is home, at last. Praying for God's unimaginable peace and protection for the family.”
