With heavy hearts, we announce the death of David Wilson Blackwelder in York, South Carolina, who passed away on July 7, 2023 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Bennett Blackwelder and Grace White Blackwelder; his wife Shirley Cunnup Blackwelder; his son David Brenton Blackwelder (Tami Carpenter Blackwelder) of Irmo; his brother William Blackwelder (Bill); and his sister-in-law Sandra Catoe Blackwelder.

He is survived by: his son Victor Blackwelder (Cathy McKinney Blackwelder) of Prosperity; his sister Alice Smith Crocker; and his grandsons, Matt Blackwelder (Janna), Cody Blackwelder (William Blackwelder) and Michael Blackwelder (Sarah). He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Westminster Presbyterian Church (1715 Broad River Road, Columbia, SC 29210).

“I got to know David through his work at our church, Westminster Presbyterian in Columbia. He always worked various projects for the church without ever being asked. He was the recording Treasurer for many, many years and he trained me on the duties of the treasurer where I served a few years. He had a big heart and love of his church. I went to see him about 2 weeks ago and I am glad I did. " I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith ". RIP-David.-Steve Mann”
