He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Arledge and Mary Lou Ashford Castles, Sr.; and his siblings, Rufus A. Castles, Jr., W. Lindsay Castles, Ada Lee Pleasants, Marjorie Muse, Edna Robinson, Jeanette Shedd, Alice Evans, Martha Ann Weed and Rebecca Gossett.
He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Johnson Castles; his children, Joel Ashford Castles, Jr. (Audrey), Pamela Castles Fogle (Clint) and Patricia Castles Haskins (Chuck); and his grandchildren, Abby Castles Bruce, Nikki Haskins, Thomas Castles, Rebecca Haskins, Hannah Castles Clark, Summer Haskins and Rion Fogle. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and brothers and sisters in law.
