He was predeceased by: his parents, Eddie Lawson and Lula Mae Gratic Lawson; his siblings, Robert James Lawson, Belton Bell, David Lawson and Gloria Lawson Alston; and his close friend Carolyn Burrell Cook.
He is survived by: his siblings, Stevie Lawson (Emely) of Winnsboro, SC, Pauline Lawson Perry of Winnsboro, SC, Mary Lawson Young (Joseph) of Ridgeway, SC and Jerome Willingham (Glory) of Winnsboro, SC; his cousin Brenda Taylor Smith of Raleigh, NC; his daughter Bonita Smith Franklin (Donald Franklin) of Columbia, SC; his grandchildren, Darrien Coleman, Tyrese Young and Javien Franklin of Columbia, SC; and his goddaughter Sheila Boyd Chappell of Winnsboro, SC. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
