He was predeceased by: his wife Judy Ray Sams; his parents, Zebulon Vance and Lucy Barrett Sams; his son Gavin Ray Sams; his siblings, Helen, Martin, Jack, Zeb, Mary, Johnny and Clayton; and his grandparents, Henry, Sena Calloway Barrett, Stephen Jefferson and Molly Brown Sams.
He is survived by: his children, Stephen Sams, Jr. and Stephanie Sams Page (Martin); and his grandchildren, Jonathan Sams, Anna Katherine Page and Mary Beth Williamson (Isaac). He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
