He was predeceased by: his parents, James Nelms and Sarah Nelms; his wife Brenda Gayle Nelms; his son Milton Keith Nelms; his grandson Eric Blaine Vickery; and his brothers, Roger Dale Nelms and James Earle Nelms.
He is survived by: his children, Kathy Owens (Randy), Michael Nelms (Cathy), Rex Nelms (Mary) and Tarra Holloway (Chet); his grandchildren, Jerica Vickery, Christian Nelms, Liam Nelms, Taylor and Emma Smith; his sister Barbara Brown; his niece Tonya Brown-Smith (Joey); and his nephews, Richard Brown and Rick Nelms (Jane).
