He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Ackerson and Hazel Albert Ackerson; and his brother Kenneth Ackerson. He is survived by: his wife Holly Steichmann Ackerson.

In lieu of flowers, Don requested that memorial gifts be designated to cancer research through the Mayo Clinc.
