He is survived by: his wife Loriann Thomas Smoak; his sons, Matthew Wayne Smoak, Sr. (Dianne) of Walterboro and Andrew Thomas Smoak (Hannah) of Walterboro; his sisters, Kathy Smyly of Ruffin and Janice Stokes of Orangeburg; and his grandchildren, Shannon Nicole Smoak of Matthew Wayne, Smoak, Jr., Connor Ray Smoak and Roman Michael Smoak.
