He was predeceased by: his parents, Phillip Simmons and Felicia Williams Simmons; his wife Gladys Olivia Montgomery Simmons; his children, Florence Montgomery Bartley and Tony Leroy Montgomery; his grandson O'Brian Bartley; and his siblings, Lee Williams, Freddie Williams, Barbara Ann Folk and Lutricia Moore.
He is survived by: his sons, Timmy James Simmons and Melvin Montgomery; his grandchildren, Indiar (Darion), Jerrell Bartley, Marvin Boatwright (Christina), Trevor Simmons, Savion Gardner and Antonio Boatwright (Chanda); his great grandchildren, Orianna Bartley, Dashia Bartley, Malik Boatwright, Connor Boatwright and Antwan Boatwright; his sister Mamie Lynah of Cottageville; his aunt Clara Williams of Walterboro; his siblings-in-law, Margie Williams of Savannah, Dorothy Montgomery of Walterboro, Delores Montgomery of Augusta, Sarah Nettles of Moss Point, Barbara Watts of New Haven, Glencile Greenlea of Montgomery, Alabama, Edward Montgomery of Moss Point, Willie Montgomery of Garden Grove, Larry Montgomery of Beatrice, Gregory Montgomery (Doris) of Beatrice, Hazell Montgomery (Sylvia) of Beatrice, Elijah Hale (Mary) of Shreveport and Howard Hale (Johnnie Mae) of Frisco City, Alabama; and his niece Christine Lynah Golden of Cottageville. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
