It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rosa J. Lawton of Walterboro, South Carolina, born in Islandton, South Carolina, who passed away on November 7, 2024, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Willie Lawton and Artlee Lawton; her husband Douglas Sutter of Springtown; her children, Michael Sutter (Renell Sutter) and Jamel (Akeem); and her siblings, Lorenzo, Aaron, Cleroy, Glendale, Myrtle Risher and Gertrude Lawton.
She is survived by: her children, Jake Sutter of Conyngham, Wasmig Bey of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Wanda Wactor of Saint George; her sisters, Minister Helen Jenkins (Russell) of Smoaks and Margie Lawton of Islandton; and her sisters-in-law, Rosa Duodo of Springtown, Diane Lawton of Riverdale and Winnifred Sutter of Springtown. She is also survived by children; twelve grandchildren; twenty-seven great- grandchildren; twenty-four great -great grandchildren.
Viewing was held on Friday, November 15th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Stephens Funeral Home (1767 Jefferies Hwy, Walterboro, SC 29488). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 16th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church (3455 Sunrise Rd, Smoaks, SC 29481).
