He was predeceased by: his parents, William L. "Billy" Sheffield and Genevieve "Beak" Rentz Sheffield. He is survived by: his spouse Shawne Headden Sheffield; his children, Richard Sheffield (Robin) of Walterboro and Andrea Michel (Rick) of Washington State; his stepson Josh Thomas (Misty) of Walterboro; his brother Billy Sheffield, III (Barbara); his pet Levi; and his close friends, Rudy Clark and Danny Gregory. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
