He was predeceased by: his parents, Delonor Roosevelt Quick and Margaret "Maggie" Louise Chavis Crump; and his grandson SyVonn JoVarius "SJ" McLaurin. He is survived by: his children, Kenneth Polston (Karen) of Hamlet, NC, James Allen Chavis (Buffy Quick) of Bennettsville, SC, Toni Chavis (Shawonia York) of Bennettsville, SC, Melissa Chavis of Bennettsville, SC and Anthony Chavis of Bennettsville, SC; his siblings, Michael Chavis (Phyllis), Bobby Chavis (Marianne), Scott Furr, Donna Lynn Brigman, Heather Deidra Crump and Chavistown; his grandchildren, Jessica Huggins of Hartsville, SC, Timothy Oxendine of Bennettsville, SC, Morgan Johnson of Columbia, SC, Conner, Noah Scott of Hamlet, NC, James Allen Chavis, Jr., Aaron Kristopher Chavis, Braylen Cooper Chavis, QuaVonn SyKeen "Chavis" McLaurin of Bennettsville, SC, Jayden Micah Chavis, Aerian Skylar Chavis, Keilan Anthony Chavis and Harlan Averi Chavis of McColl, SC; and his nephew Kevin Griggs. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
