He was predeceased by: his parents, John Benjamin Buchanan and Ethel Curtis Buchanan; his siblings, Teresa Avon, David Buchanan, Timothy Andrew "Andy" Buchanan, Lillian McDowell and Betty Hutchison; his son John Evert Buchanan; and his wife Diane Malloy Buchanan.
He is survived by: his son Stephen R. Buchanan III (Sonja); his grandchildren, Rebecca Buchanan, Landon Buchanan, Jr., Rushing (Dallas) and Paige Rushing; his great grandchild Allie Rose; his sister Johnnie Mae Bass; and his friend George Steen.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial donations be made out to the American Heart Association.
