He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel Gathings and Ruby Blackmon Edwards; his wife Vivian Gathings; and his stepparents, Doris Gathings and Rodney Edwards.
He is survived by: his daughters, Amy Rainwater (Joe) of Wallace, SC and Michelle Fuller (Alan) of Ellerbe, NC; his siblings, Danny Gathings (Kim) of Ellerbe, NC, Ronnie Blackmon (Joyce) of Memphis, TN and Lisa G. Smith of Ellerbe, NC; his grandchildren, Tyler Graves (Jessica) and Kylie Rainwater; and his great grandchild Jayda Graves. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews.
