It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Maxie Lee Wright Duke (Walhalla, South Carolina), born in Highlands, North Carolina, who passed away on December 16, 2020, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Charles N. Wright and Helen Cabe Wright Wilson; and her husband Albert A. Duke, Sr.. She is survived by: her brother Josh Wilson (Pat) of Belton; her children, Susan Clarkson (Greg) of Highlands, NC, Margaret Powell of Seneca, Albert A Duke Jr. (Becky) of Walhalla, Alisa Gunter (Dennis) of Landrum and Mary Helen Duke of Tampa, FL.; her grandchildren, Holly Vanhorn (John), Alexis Keating (Robin), Jonathan Clarkson (Kayla), Amanda Powell, Chris Gunter (April), Barak Gunter (Megan), Kaleb Gunter and Carter Duke; and her great grandchildren, Jackson Vanhorn, Samhradh, Lana Keating, Benjamin, Emily, Matthew Clarkson, Jack, Tucker, Hampton Powell, Claire Gunter and Max Gunter.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held and burial will be in Highlands Memorial Cemetery.
The committee held numerous fundraisers and asked the community for donations which lead to the Walhalla Civic Auditorium opening in 2003.
