He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Lecurgus and Parilee Tolar Murphy; his grandsons, Michael Murphy Williams and Timothy Brian Williams; his son-in-law Michael Jonathan Williams; and his brothers, Thomas Lee Murphy and Jessie Gordon Murphy.

He is survived by: his daughters, Ashli Johnson (John), Christi Williams and Chanda Knapek (Kurt); his siblings, Emory Murphy (Joyce) and Caren Blair (Alton); and his grandchildren, Tori Johnson, Will Henry, Grace Williams, Eric Williams, Tristan Pye, Trevor Pye and Kyle Knapek.
