She was predeceased by: her parents, Rubin Rice and Della Beaty Rice; her former husband Fred Florence, Jr.; her sons, Fred Ervin Florence and Edward Charles Florence; her husband Walter H. Simmons; her grandson Seth Edward Florence; and her siblings, Lester Rice, Hizzie Rice, Eugene Rice, McKinley Rice, Russell Rice, Pernetta Comer, Maude Love, Eva Rice, Mable Young, Hattie Jeter, Minnie Cotton, Fannie Gray, Martha Rice and Inez "Nell" Sartor.
She is survived by: her grandchildren, Dionne Inman (John), Dwayne Florence (Patricia), Tawanda Muhammad, Freda Florence and Aulenthia Matthews; and her stepgrandchild Monifa James. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
