He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hoyle Gibson, Sr. and Harriett Brown Gibson; and his wife Catherine Bell Gibson. He is survived by: his children, Thomas J. Gibson, Jr. (Gwen) of Lenoir, NC, Cathy G. Matheson (David) of Asheville, NC and Heather E. Gibson of Traveler's Rest, SC; his grandchildren, Zachary Matheson (Leah), Caryn Gibson, Julia Youngsmith (Dylan) and Jonathan Matheson (Emily); and his great grandchildren, Kira Spivey, Kylie Matheson, Klara Matheson, Gabriel Youngsmith and Violet Youngsmith.
