He was predeceased by: his wife Alma Lee Barnett; his children, Melanie Ann Barnett and James Earle Barnett Jr.; and his siblings, Frances Buchanan (Lawrence) and Charles Barnett.
He is survived by: his daughters, Lesha Nix (John) of Conyers, GA and Kimberly Elliott (Matt) of Greenville, SC; his daughter-in-law Annalynn Barnett of Greenville, SC; his granddaughter Margaret Nix of San Francisco, CA.; and his brother George Barnett (Betty) of Easley, SC. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
