He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Brite" Tompkins and Clara Cooper Tompkins; his siblings, Lee Tompkins, Reba Rogers, Jane Cribb, Margie Tompkins and Betty Tompkins; and his stepdaughter Gail Cunningham.
He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Turner Tompkins of Effingham; his grandsons, Nick Lester (Beth) of Effingham and Alex Wilson of Dillon, Montana; his daughter Tippy Retana; and his sister Gladys Pipkin.
