She was predeceased by: her parents, Ernest Franklin Lathan and Ruth Brady Lathan; her husband James Thomas Shankle; and her siblings, Ernest, Leon, Bill, Benny, Louise, Grace, Ann and Doris.
She is survived by: her children, James Thomas Shankle III (Angie) of Lincolnton, NC and Rhonda Russell (Jeff) of Tega Cay; her granddaughters, Jessica Hanke (Bryant), Lindsey Sturgis (Brandon), Megan Russell, Carleigh Peeler, Mallory Shankle and Kennedy Shankle; her great grandchild Peyton; and her sisters, Betty Lou Slocum of Panama City, FL. and Mary Elizabeth Brown of Panama City, FL.. She is also survived by nephews, nieces and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruby Shankle's name to Hospice & Palliative Care – Charlotte Region, 1057 Red Ventures Drive, Suite 150, Fort Mill, SC 29707.
