He is survived by: his parent Olive Massingill Cater; his wife Kathy; his children, Barry Evett (Denise), Cynthia Lynn Cater of Taylors, Kimberly Ann Cater Arledge (Alan) of Saint George and Andrea Casey Cater of Easley; his siblings, Garnice Cater of Easley and Narvice Sweezy; his husband George Woods of Easley; his grandchildren, Alesha Merrell of Pickens, Courtney Crenshaw of Simpsonville and Jesse Evett of Pickens; his children, Cody Merrell and Juliana "Bug" Crenshaw; his sister Ann Hayes; his former wife Betty James Cater; and also, Wekona Woods of Easley and Nelta Bagwell.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial be sent to the "Rid the Debt" fund at Jones Street Baptist Church.
