With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Walter L. Proctor Jr. (Sumter, South Carolina), who passed away on April 7, 2025 at the age of 94. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Though Walter may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, his essence remains woven into the very fabric of our being — a guiding light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in the night.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter L. Proctor, Sr. and Hollie Brown Proctor; and his siblings, Col. Charles Herbert Proctor, Jessie Mozingo and Mary Lee Freeman.
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Newman Proctor; and his children, Rev. Walter L. Proctor, III (Barbara) of New Zion, Gwen Phillips (Tommy) of Cades and Dena Joye (Doug) of Surfside Beach. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 11th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Lewis Chapel Church (1510 Plowden Mill Rd, Sumter, SC 29153). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 11th 2025 at 4:00 PM at the same location.
