We are sad to announce that on January 2, 2025, at the age of 67, Ruth Hughes Riley (Sumter, South Carolina) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As Ruth departs from our midst, her spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved Ruth. Though Ruth may no longer walk beside us, her legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Gilbert Hughes, Sr. and Eleanor Paige Howell Hughes; and her son Deyerl Squires. She is survived by: her grandson Cody Squires; her siblings, Joye Hughes, Gayle Shirah (Jimmy), Jody Hughes (Tammy), Jeffrey Hughes (Cindy) and Allen Hughes (Stephanie); and her pets, Pookie and Tootie.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Wedgefield Baptist Church (6220 Wedgefield Rd, Wedgefield, SC 29168). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
