It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Eva Carmel Riggs (Sumter, South Carolina), born in Stella, North Carolina, who passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. As Eva Carmel departs from our midst, her spirit ascends to join the cosmic dance of stars, a shimmering constellation of memories that will forever grace the night sky of the hearts of those who loved Eva Carmel. Though Eva Carmel may no longer walk beside us, her legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.
She was predeceased by: her husband William Paul Riggs; and her parents, Augustus E. Godwin and Hazel Ophelia Poole Godwin. She is survived by: her sons, Don Riggs (Ellie) of Sumter, Tom Riggs (Marsha) of Sumter and Steve Riggs (Beverly) of Sumter; and also Bobby Godwin (Pat) of Newport. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home (221 Broad St, Sumter, SC 29150). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 29th 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight (221 Broad St, Sumter, SC 29150).
