He is survived by: his wife Brandy Bates of Spartanburg, SC; his mother Lovie Bates of Spartanburg, SC.; his children, Jonathan Bates Jr. of Spartanburg, SC., Marcus Brown of Spartanburg, SC., Anijah Brewton (Doyell) of Spartanburg, SC., Kierra Manigan of Spartanburg, SC., Brianna Tucker of Spartanburg, SC. and Jasia Bates of Spartanburg, SC.; his granddaughter Kalani Brewton; his sister Tko Gist; and his godmother Vera Ware.
Visitation was held on Sunday, January 12th 2025 at 4:00 PM. A funeral service was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Fairforest in Spartanburg, SC. (200 Charity Dr, Spartanburg, SC 29301).
