He was predeceased by: his spouse Joan Elizabeth Griffin Shelton; his parents, Henry Brown Shelton and Ada Emaline Putnam Shelton; and his siblings, George Shelton, Johnny Shelton, Wayne Shelton, Billy Shelton, Sonny Shelton, Betty Byrd, Margie Lucas, Velma Ramsey, Lucille Weaver and Martha Jane Shelton.
He is survived by: his children, Roger Keith Shelton (Stephanie) of Greenville, Kevin Spicer (Zhiling Liu) of Greer, Cathy Carter (Lane Carter) of Gaffney and Sherri Capps (Keith) of Gaffney; his brother Jack Shelton (Ramona) of Gaffney; his grandchildren, Emily Bagwell (Tyler, Erin Smith), Eric Carter, Ethan Carter, Elaine Carter, Ryann Shelton, Brook Shelton, Ria Shelton, Blake Shelton, Griffin Capps, Alexandra Capps and Elizabeth Spicer; and his great grandchildren, Leah Smith and Andrew Capps.
